Introduction
Since its establishment in 1951, the Mongolian National University of Education has been the leading institute for teacher education in the country. As a result, we have a long history of achievement and progress in the education sector. Throughout this time, the university has gone through several name changes to evidence the expanding purposes, functions and duties of the institution. In 1957, it became the State Institute of Education, in 1991 it was renamed the State University of Education, and finally in 2003 it was given its current name. Today, this name reflects both national and international recognition of the University, as well as its significant contribution to education, science, and culture in Mongolia.
The University is proud of having successfully performed its duty to educate thousands of teaching staff for schooling of all levels, as well as non-teacher professionals including cultural and arts workers, social workers, journalists, sportsmen, and coaches. Currently, the University implements a comprehensive policy that aligns itself with the demands of the needs of individual leaners, Mongolian society as a whole, and international trends in education.
Accordingly, the University prioritizes high quality educational and research programs that address international issues alongside specific national aims. These especially include the development of educational technology in the sector.
Due to the increasingly important role of teachers as a driving force for positive change in Mongolian society, the University strives toward the implementation of professional development programs. This will be completed through both long and short term goals. In the coming years, we aim to improve the research capacity of the teaching staff with a view to solving many of the pressing social issues that teachers are currently facing. In particular, we seek to improve the quality of the learning and research environment, institutional management systems, human resources, curriculum standards, access to technology, and methodologies. This will enable our students to transform into highly qualified professionals. In the long term, the University is working towards achieving international standards of research and management through developing the electronic learning environment, and introducing new education management systems. We have started to organize scientific conferences at the international level.
